I chose to watch Jersey shore because I think it is one of the most watched reality shows at the moment. Reality television is definately trashy at times.I'll also agree that the producers set the characters up for failure by forcing them or putting them in scenes they know will lead to arguments or drama. However, I do think there are people that really act like those on Jersey shore. Sometimes it seems like reality shows are a bit extreme but if we think about it there are moments/people that act like the people on Jersey shore in each of our personal lives. There's definately couples out there that always seem to be fighting and people who seem to be on a mission to make bad decisions. For this reason, I don't think reality tv is totally fake. This group of people living in a house together at Jersey Shore with no responsibilities but to have fun would ultimately lead to some crazy incidents. These people really don't have anything to do all day but have fun. Also if you think about how many months are being filmed versus the hours that are actually shown on television it may actually be relevant. The producers have months to get "good" film and it is very possible that they will end up with a few crazy incidents. I think reality tv definately focuses on drinking, humor, fun, and sex. It seems like it's always the same story everyone on Jersey Shore goes out to drink, dance, bring back a "buddy", Ronnie and Sam fight and then they all go to bed. I think we are drawn to this because we enjoy watching how people handle and act in certain situations. We enjoy watching people have fun, be happy, fight and make up. All these things are pretty much the story in everyones' life maybe not in the exact same way as Jersey Shore but we all experience the same emotions they do. Our role as viewers is to respond to what we enjoy. If we like something we watch it and follow all the other shows that correspond or relate to the show, like after show where they discuss what we didn't see. Personally I don't revolve my life around these shows but I can't say I hate to watch them. I am definately the type of person who likes to see other peoples' reactions and how they handle certain situations.
I agree the directors put them in these situations but how they react is all on themselves so they aren't staged really. I think it's horrible when people try to act like the people on Jersey Shore..it doesn't make them cool. I like Jersey Shore yes, but I would never want to be like them..they don't really have a life out of that.
ReplyDeleteJersey Shore is a horrible show and I find it to portray Italians really negatively. I am surprised there isn't a big backlash against the show due to the way they portray Italians. I think the show is completely staged. Not only do I think the directors put them in those situations, I think they tell them how to respond. Either way, I find the show to be complete and utter trash. It is not cool to act like they do. I do not enjoy people in real life that act like that and therefore I also don't like them.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that the producers pick certain people for a reason. Obviously they either know these people act like this in real life or they would be perfect people to put on a show like this. But if it's a reality tv show, I believe that it is how they actually live in real life. Although I have watched this show numerous times I must say it's entertaining to a point. But once the same things happen over and over again which is really what that show is about, then it gets old. Eventually this show will be over but unfortunately these people won't be forgot because of the way they are portrayed and act on the show.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to agree with carson on this one. I think that jersey shore is indeed a terrible show and that no one should have to go through the agonizing pain in watching it. It is not how real people live. Everything in that show is staged and it is completely terrible. The actors if you want to call them that, are definitely told how to respond in every situation
